Research status
Maker and country of production are not established; purchase in Frankfurt indicates the place of find but does not by itself prove German origin. By the type of all-metal loop handle and self-feeding screw the tool is provisionally placed among common European hand augers of the late 19th to mid-20th century. Similarity of form does not allow a confident attribution to the same maker as the other augers of the group. Comparison with the Frankfurt group: no. 1 — 210 mm / 124 g; no. 2 SCHLAGRING 10 — 215 mm / 120 g; no. 3 — 191 mm / 73 g; no. 4 — 153 mm / 48 g; no. 5 — 146 mm / 49 g (7 mm shorter than no. 4 but 1 g heavier). To be established: the actual hole diameter, performance in wood, the state of the lead screw, close-up photographs of the cutting part if needed. Bought at a flea market in Frankfurt am Main in late September 2026; the price is 1 € (confirmed by the owner). Data from photographs and the owner's information, October 2026.
