History

Wooden specialised (moulding-type) plane with side chip ejection and a French iron. Body and wedge look like beech, the iron is steel. The body keeps a red oval maker's label "ABC — DANISH QUALITY TOOLS"; the iron reads "PEUGEOT FRÈRES … FRANCE", with a company emblem and the number "30" (possibly the iron size, unconfirmed). A wooden wedge, side chip exit, a shaped cut-out in the body and a longitudinal wood joint line are visible. The exact purpose of the profile needs checking against the sole.

Dating. Presumably about 1930s–1970s for the plane in its present configuration; unconfirmed.

Restoration

On disassembly at least two deep corrosion pits were found on the iron's working face. The craftsman flattened the back completely until both disappeared, then sharpened it with a Veritas Deluxe Honing Guide Mk. II on waterstones up to 6000 grit, reaching a razor edge. The Peugeot Frères stamp, the historic surface of the rest of the iron, the wedge, the old finish of the body and the ABC label are preserved. The intervention is functional restoration: irreversible but technically justified. The sharpening angle and intermediate grits were not recorded.

Research status

Confirmed: the body is marked ABC Danish Quality Tools; the iron is marked Peugeot Frères / France. Assumption: the body is linked to the Danish market or a Danish trade brand, but its place of manufacture is not proven. ABC is the trade mark on the body; Peugeot Frères is a historic French tool brand, the maker or brand of the iron, which by itself does not fix a date. The factory pairing is not established: the iron may be original or a replacement. To be clarified: body length and width, iron width, sole profile and purpose, sharpening angle, origin and years of the ABC brand, whether body and iron belong together. Card dated 17 October 2026, based on the owner's information and photographs.
